Flat & the Curves didn’t expect their own show to become the story. Five days before the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, one of them got the text: after a decade of marriage, her husband was leaving her. So, what do you do when you’ve spent £16,000 on creating a show and quit your side hustle? You pull up your Bridget Joneses and push through. And when your knickers are stuck at half-mast, you know your girls will pull them up for you.
The timing couldn’t have been better, because Rosé Tinted had already been written as a love letter to your ride-or-dies: the pals who pick you up, pour the wine and piece you back together when life goes spectacularly off-script. It earned Flat & the Curves an (ISH) Edinburgh Comedy Award nomination for Best Show and a fistful of five-star reviews. What audiences didn’t know is that they were living the songs in real time.
Now they’ve reworked that show into one big divorce party. It’s everything that was said in the group chat, sung out loud and set to an original score. Some of the most commanding West End voices you’ll hear this year, performing anthemic balladry for the new age woman; songs including Woman You Just Met in the Loo, Hen Don’ts and A Woman Bjorned.
Flat & the Curves were born out of a collective who have been making original comedy shows together for nine years, forming the band in 2021, each bringing their unique experience: Issy Wroe Wright (Shit-Faced Showtime creator) as producer, Katy Baker (Four Femmes on the Thames) as lyricist and Charlotte Brooke (Musical Comedy Award Best Newcomer) as composer and musical director. Their show was OffWestEnd (Offie) nominated and named one of British Comedy Guide’s best-reviewed shows at the Fringe. Featured on BBC TV and radio.
