Nina’s love of theatre started young where she’d put on shows for her neighbours, drawing posters to advertise them to local residents. From then she joined a youth theatre group where they performed across the UK which led to a career behind the scenes where Nina has taken on roles in wardrobe and technical departments, even touring with the legendary Paul O’Grady. Here’s what she had to say about her role at Chelmsford Theatre
Tell us about your role at Chelmsford Theatre
My role at the theatre is very much audience focused being a friendly face, welcoming everyone and giving them a positive experience from the moment they arrive. I brief the ushers on the show that will be performing giving timings, effects and things that may occur- every show is different.
I enjoy being part of the audience's journey. Welcoming people into the theatre and helping to create memorable experiences. In many ways, I feel like I'm opening the door to another world, whether that's comedy, music, drama, or pure escapism.
Is there something about the theatre that you’d like the general public to know more about?
I'd like to shout about our Studio space. It's a smaller, incredibly versatile venue which can be transformed to suit different types of events. One evening it might host an intimate fringe production, the next a comedy night, drag bingo, a National Theatre screening, magical kids show, or a lunchtime concert featuring local musicians. It's also exciting to see emerging artists and comedians perform in the Studio. It's one of the theatre's hidden gems.
What personally inspires you to do what you do?
Theatre has always been a huge part of my life, and I'm inspired by its ability to bring people together culturally, sparking imagination and creating lasting memories. I love knowing that every audience member who walks through our doors is about to experience something special, and it's a privilege to play a small part in that journey.
What are you looking forward to in the upcoming September to December season?
I'm looking forward to welcoming audiences back for another exciting season. Studio shows like Out the Box, Down to Chance and Jane Eyre look amazing. In Chelmsford Theatre I’m excited about the return of Pride and Prejudice* (*sort of) and Blood Brothers. One of the things that I like to champion at Chelmsford Theatre is the diversity of the programme we offer, I get great pleasure from seeing people discovering new shows, supporting visiting artists, and creating memorable experiences throughout the season.
