Join us for Chelmsford Theatre’s annual Musical in a Week! This year we are excited to offer two programmes, a performers programme and a technical programme. Please read the below information to find out more about the programmes and how to book.
Performers (ages 9-15) :
Working with Grace, a talented choreographer and musical theatre tutor, and Andrea, our experience director and acting coach, a group of 30 young people will bring High School Musical (one act version) to life in just one week!
This five day process will involve full dance routines, singing workshops, acting masterclasses and full rehearsals. Bringing to life all the classics like We’re All In This Together and Breaking Free, the team of young people will work together to bring together a full production. This will be performed in the Chelmsford Theatre studio on the final Friday to parents and careers, with full lighting and sound!
We will ensure that every child has a speaking part and is fully involved in the production. We cannot promise particular roles or a lead role to every participant. Key parts of costume will be provided, however some base items, or easily sourced items, may need to be provided by parents/careers – for example a white shirt.
To take part in Musical as a Week as a performer, please purchase a ticket.
Please see additional info in this Performers Pack
Technical (ages 13-18):
Working with our talented technical crew in a professional theatre, you will spend your first three days being introduced to the world of technical theatre. You will get hands on as you learn all about the world of lighting, sound and stage management.
The final two days are spent with our performers, as you learn to mark up and script and run a technical rehearsal! All of this concludes in you taking on a role in the final performance, either as a lighting operator, sound operator, running follow spot or stagehand. You will be supported in running the technical aspects for a full production, in just one week!
To take part in the technical theatre pathway, we ask you complete this short application form.
Applications will close on the 20th May, or earlier if we receive significant applications. All young people will find out within a week if they have been given a place or have been put on our waitlist.
Each young person will receive two free tickets, and other tickets can be purchased. It is a non-negotiable that young people attend all five days, including the performance at 6:30pm on Friday 7th August.
Chelmsford Theatre is fully committed to creating a fully inclusive Discover Programme. We ask that if you have any questions, or would like some additional support that you contact us at outreach.theatre@chelmsford.gov.uk
